RUDY SARZO and Kompoz.com Announce 'Off The Rails' Songwriting Competition

November 28, 2008

To celebrate his new book, "Off the Rails: Aboard the Crazy Train in the Blizzard of Ozz" — a first hand account of his friendship on and off the road with Randy Rhoads and Ozzy Osbourne — legendary rock bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE, QUIET RIOT, DIO, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT) is launching songwriting contest on Kompoz.com.

"I had the pleasure of jamming with Randy Rhoads, and now I'm inviting you to join me in honoring his legacy", said Rudy Sarzo. "I'm inviting you to join me in creating a brand new song. I'll play bass. You can play drums, guitar, sing, or whatever you do. Then we'll let the fans decide! Crank up your amps to 11 and lets rock!"

From November 18, 2008 until December 31, 2008, musicians and fans are invited to collaborate on Kompoz.com, and create a brand new song to be featured on RudySarzo.com. Download bass grooves and riffs created by Rudy Sarzo (available at this location),then pick a few to assemble a bass line. Work with other Kompoz members to add other instruments to complete a new original song. The best new songs will win huge prizes, including a Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar, a Peavey Rudy Sarzo signature bass, an Ampeg amp, M-Audio Pro Tools gear, a Line-6 POD, Sony Acid Pro, and more.

Contest sponsors include Jackson Guitars, Peavey, Sony Creative Software, Line 6, M-Audio, OurStage.com, Premier Guitar Magazine, TooSmart! Publishing, and PrintMusicOnline.com.

A new collector's edition of Rudy Sarzo's book, "Off the Rails: Aboard the Crazy Train in the Blizzard of Ozz", was released in August via TooSmart! Publishing. According to Sarzo, "The new edition is beautiful and includes many more pictures throughout the book as well as a 16-page glossy spread of Ross Halfin photos from the beginning of our tour."

"Off the Rails" includes a first-person account from Rudy's personal day-by-day diary of events while touring with Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads in the early Eighties. The book was originally due in 2005 but was delayed after Sharon Osbourne allegedly applied pressure to have it pulled.
